Are you planning to fail again?
Well what a negative way to start off the new year. Here we were all excited about our New Years Resolutions and Badass Builders try’s to spoil the fun!
Actually we want to help! You see, every year about this time people make personal resolutions like: “I am going to quit smoking” or “This year I am going to loose 30 Lbs” while resolutions are great, they always seem to fail… But Why? Well it is simple you see, the answer is because we did not form a habit.
Every January the most obvious observations are cigarette sales are down and gym memberships are up. It sounds like a great idea to quit smoking and get in shape, and it is! What happens is that after a few days or weeks we get back in to our “habits”, notice how I did not say old habits. That is because these are our habits. To change a current habit we need to create a new habit, most experts will say it takes 30 days to form a habit. There are also some consistent tips offered to create that habit.
Such as:
– Write down what you want to change
– Do it consistently for 30 days
– Plan ahead for the usual triggers
– Understand why you want to create the habit and what the rewards are
– Get specific about the habit your trying to create
– Set reasonable & Achievable goals
– Keep a positive attitude
By doing these things you can create a new habit! Successful people do the things that failures don’t like to do, not because they like doing them but because they understand the results they will get.
These are principals outlined in many “Self Help” books, so why not apply these principals to your business as well? Are you looking to increase sales, are you looking to cut costs, are you looking to expand in new markets? Form a habit!
In our business when we want to increase sales we start marketing by placing ads in local classifieds, social networking sites and other media outlets, we start cold calling & cold emailing in a certain industry. We do this on a consistent basis, if we only do it for a week we have not gained the full benefit and are bound to find ourselves needing to increase sales again. If we do this consistently throughout the year we reap the full benefit!
If you are thinking “I don’t want to do that every day, that is boring and unpleasing!” That’s OK, because by forming a habit you will find that it is no longer a tedious task but a part of your business process. The foundation of any good business is having processes in place!
