How to keep people coming back to your website
A lot of people go to a lot of trouble to be sure internet surfers visit their websites. Many opt for expensive Search Engine Optimization and Search Engine Marketing Programs, Pay-per-click campaigns and online ads. And those strategies often succeed. But do they keep people coming back?
Well, no. That part of the job is up to you. Ideally, you want to boost your profile by making sure web surfers find your site, then like it enough to keep coming back for more. So what you really need is a combination of good marketing (SEO, SEM, etc.) and a good website. Here’s a quick analysis of a few ways you can keep visitors coming back to your site.
Make it enjoyable.
You don’t need clowns and ponies, but use good design. Make it look nice. Put some attractive images up. Try interactive web 2.0 technologies, videos, and the like. Use interesting and informative writing.
Keep it fresh.
If you’re selling things, update your inventory. Or post articles about your industry, your clientele or the Batavia Muckdogs. Just be sure to keep it fresh, enjoyable and engaging to your target market.
Stay in touch.
Offer users a chance to sign up for an email newsletter, a special coupon, an email seminar or something similar. Keep a mailing list. Let customers know that you care about them. Make them feel special, but don’t spam them or pester them.
Exude confidence.
Especially if you’re selling a good or service directly from your site, visitors need to feel that their personal information is secure. Take every step to offer visitors a secure experience, and let them know. Make sure your design is clean and doesn’t resemble a scam site in any way, shape or form.
Of course, these are just a few basic suggestions. But we stick by them, and they work. Getting and keeping an online audience isn’t easy and it takes time and effort. But if you follow the right steps, you’ll do great.
