How do you become a trendsetter? Well for the New England Patriots, Adam Levine and Lindsey Vonn it doesn’t seem to hard at all. For the rest of us its a little more difficult. Chances are your not already popular, you don’t have the authority to command attention and you probably don’t have the hottest new toy on the market like Xbox One or Goldie blox.

What you do have going for you is your reading this article, your taking the initiative to learn and grow. Being well informed is an important feature of any trend setter. Having an understanding of what people like and informing others on your thoughts about those things is a great place to start.

So what is that magic formula that makes other trend setters so prominent in society? Well it starts with confidence. I remember an experiment my old manager taught me. We were sitting in a bar and talking about girls. He said who is the prettiest girl in the bar. I pointed her out and he agreed, then he said now go talk to her. My thought was no way, I don’t have a chance with her. His response was, “exactly”. That’s what every guy in this place thinks, but if you have confidence to go and talk to the prettiest girl in the bar, when no one else will I bet you will get good results. So, I went and approached her we talked for about a half an hour and had a great conversation and a few drinks and got her number.

The results didn’t stop there, once the conversation was over and she had left, all of the guys and girls in the bar were approaching and talking to me. People had gained respect for me because I did something they were too afraid to do. That was the start of a trend.

Trend setters don’t go in thinking they are trend setters, they go in with a result in mind. There is a great article called “The Common Denominator of Success” by Albert E.N. Gray, who was an insurance sales man, asked to give a speech on what makes a person successful. In short, his finding was that successful people do the things that failures don’t like to do. While failures tend to take the easier softer way. Successful people have a goal in mind and do whatever it takes to reach it. They go for the pleasing results over the pleasing methods. Becoming a trend setter is no different, find your result, make sure its likable, learn everything about it, share your knowledgeable opinions with confidence and build authority. Repeat this process again and again successfully and you to can become a trendsetter!
